North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo

Start your Labour Day Weekend (September) at the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo watching eight seconds of the wildest ride around. Watch as 1,800 pounds of fury buck and kick in an attempt to throw the cowboy off its back. Eight seconds to you feels like a lifetime for that cowboy. Take in all the action at the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo.

Celebrate the Cowboy Lifestyle

The Lower North Thompson Valley is pure ranch country. The Monashee Mountains gently give way to wide-open ranges dotted by long-horned steers, grazing sheep and cattle, and bale after bale of fresh-cut hay. Our agricultural roots run deep and the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo is your chance to experience a little of what it’s like out on the range.

Every year, over 10,000 visitors step through the gates of the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo in Barriere to experience a roping good time. Steeped in 65 years of tradition, our rodeo centres itself around the pride of community and good ol’ fashioned values. Hold on to your hat, because the roster of long-established rodeo events will have you screaming YEE-HAW. Get inspired as you walk through the rows of the fall fair and take in the colours, sights and smells of the locals’ handicrafts. Discover just how far community pride goes here. Bring your dancing shoes and get to know the residents at the countrified evening events. Traditional? Yes. Outdated? Not a chance.

White Knuckled Action

Giddy up! Hold on to your hat, the excitement is immeasurable as cowboys saddle up and reach for their dreams. Take in the adrenaline packed experiences of bull riding and steer wrestling. The only BC fall fair still featuring the classic pony chariot and chuck wagon races will have you on your feet cheering for your favourite. Don’t forget the junior events at this family-friendly rodeo. You’ll be astounded as local youth take their turn to harness the strength of these mighty animals during events like barrel racing and steer riding — mini but mighty!

More than just a Rodeo

Your thirst for knowledge can be quenched here by the hands-on activities. Modern day scarecrows are created in the recycled scarecrow contest — a true blend of old and new. Summon your inner farmer at the lawnmower races or sit in the cool shade of a tree in the Companion Garden. Don’t forget to check out the North Thompson Agriplex. This building is community based pride at its finest. The brand new 36,000 square foot 2.5 million dollar building was almost entirely community funded through private donations and fundraising. This fair has something for everyone and we guarantee you won’t want to leave.

Evening Festivities

The sun may set, but the fun is just beginning. The family dance is a place for you and your brood to bond over great country music and wholesome fun. Kick up your heels at the cabaret dance — this one’s for the adult crowd and will have you dancing the night away. Western injected entertainment is on tap at the cowboy concert; cowboy poems, music and more will create more memories than you can handle.
